It’s also concerning that the data centres popping up everywhere to prop all this up come at such a high cost in terms of power and in particular, water. The race to profit is causing water insecurity for communities. This is not progress.

I’ve seen conversations inside the AI community around the ethics of AI in terms of its usage, but almost nothing about the ethics of the infrastructure that supports it all. The cost to society is higher than a potential financial collapse.

To me the most crucial issue is that the success of LLMs, and the hope that it'll lead to AGI, is *not* based on any reasonable theory of intelligence. There are some obvious theoretical problems.
