Altman is a charlatan, thief, and liar. There's no reason to believe anything he says.

"Gary Marcus keeps receipts" is such a fantastic mic drop. I'm stealing it.

FT is also reporting that OpenAIs spokesperson is backing off claims of superintelligence as a goal, saying they only ever aspired for the technology to be as good as humans.

Don’t believe your lying ears 👂

Not to worry: Sam will be looking out for our interests in his role as a member of the US Government's AI Safety and Security Board. /s

I like how blog post states they are giving themselves 90 days to come up with a plan. Feels like they’re trying to buy themselves time and meanwhile hope the media storm blows over.

OpenAI’s blog posts usually don’t age well. Eleven months ago, the Superalignment team was announced and now it’s been disbanded completely.

And when they announced their Voice Engine in their post titled Navigating the Challenges and Opportunities of Synthetic Voices, it explicitedly stated they “recognize that generating speech that resembles people's voices has serious risks”. They then went on to impersonate Scarlett Johansson during a demo of their newest shiny toy, one month later.

🤦‍♂️

Everytime people find me cynical I try to explain how I am not cynical enough. Stranger than fiction, all of this.

“We’re planning a way to allow wide swaths of the world to elect representatives to a new governance board….”

Oh that sounds like (checks notes, sees reference to the UN) such an effective model for managing the digital revolution. Perhaps the “Alt” in “Altman” stands for “alternative universe”

Ons governance model is to use blockchain smart contracts and Distributed Autonomous Organizations to decentralize and demonetize profit motive to lie. Models can be made immutable so changes are transparent. Regulatory capture by money would end. Of course there are complications in this approach but most are technical. Complications caused by insincerity, greed or hubris are far harder to fix. Thanks Gary.

Twenty bucks say they were gonna to do it with blockchain.
